Aleksey Potapov graduated from the Academy of Textiles in Moscow, Russia in 1997 where he studied painting and applied arts. The streets and old buildings of Moscow have been major source of inspiration for his paintings and drawings. "These are expressions of mood", Aleksey said in a recent telephone conversation. This is my version of the style of painting called lyrical abstraction that can awake in the viewer full range of visions from the most obvious and concrete to magnificent philosophical structures. I sometimes can not explain why I painted something one way and not another. Much can change as I work, but for me the constants are spontaneity and improvisation. Aleksei has shown his work in several galleries in Moscow, and his paintings are in private collections in Germany and in America. At present he lives and works in Moscow.
